Is SelfM free?
Yes. SelfM is free to download from Google Play, with no limit on the number of activities. The free version shows ads.
How does lock screen tracking work?
When lock screen tracking is on, SelfM shows your activity tiles when you unlock your phone, together with the time since your last entry. Tap what you were doing and the time is logged. You can select several activities by pressing and holding, or tap “Ask later” to skip.
Do I need an account or internet connection?
No. SelfM works fully offline and does not need an account. Your data is stored on your phone.
Where is my data stored? Can you see it?
All your activities and statistics are stored locally on your device. We do not collect or store your tracking data on our servers. See our privacy policy for details.
Can I export my data?
Yes. You can export your history as a CSV file and open it in Excel, Google Sheets or any other tool. You can also import statistics, for example when moving to a new phone.
How often will SelfM ask me what I am doing?
You choose. In Settings you can set the tracking frequency (for example every 15 minutes), the days of the week, and the start and end time of tracking.
Is SelfM available for iPhone?
Not at the moment. SelfM is available for Android phones on Google Play.
Which languages does SelfM support?
SelfM is available in 12 languages, including English, Russian, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Turkish and Hindi.
Why does SelfM need these permissions?
Notifications are used for reminders. Storage access is used to export and import statistics. The foreground service and “display over other apps” permissions let SelfM show your activities on the lock screen. Phone state is used to pause tracking during calls.
The lock screen prompt stopped appearing. What can I do?
Open SelfM → Settings and check that Lock screen tracking is on. Then check that SelfM is allowed to display over other apps and is excluded from battery optimisation in your Android settings — some phones stop background apps to save battery. If it still does not work, email us with your phone model and Android version.
Will SelfM drain my battery?
SelfM only shows its prompt when you unlock your phone, during the hours you choose. If you notice high battery use, increase the tracking frequency interval or shorten the tracking period in Settings.
How do I delete my data?
Because your data is stored only on your phone, you can delete it at any time by clearing the app data or uninstalling SelfM.
Lock screen prompt not showing?
Android phone makers handle background apps differently. These steps fix most cases.
- Update SelfM to the latest version from Google Play.
- In SelfM, open Settings and make sure Lock screen tracking is switched on, and that the current day and time are inside your Tracking period.
- In Android settings, allow SelfM to display over other apps and to send notifications.
- Set SelfM’s battery usage to Unrestricted (or turn off battery optimisation for SelfM). On some phones you also need to allow auto-start.
- Restart your phone. If the prompt still does not appear, email us with your phone model and Android version.
